Formed in Toronto in 2016, The Riches comprise a six-piece band celebrated for their unique sound and captivating live performances. Their music blends various genres with alternative influences, showcasing innovative arrangements that intertwine lush synths, powerful guitars, and vibrant trumpets. Their live shows are elevated by original video art, delivering multi-sensory experiences that enthrall audiences with unconventional visuals and distinctive soundscapes.
The Riches refuse to fit into conventional genre classifications. Their unwavering focus on melody and lyrical meaning creates a sound that is both unpredictable and undeniably compelling. The band is widely acclaimed as one of the most innovative in the Toronto scene, positioned to leave a lasting impact.
On Remembrance Day 2022, they flaunted their visual artistry at 918 Bathurst Centre. They unveiled “Wetlands,” a mind-bending art film crafted by lead singer Robert Watkins and videographer Anne Taylor. Shot over 14 months in a secluded waterway, the film mesmerized viewers with its vibrant pinks and blues, paired with a pulsating, entrancing soundscape. Projected by four video projectors through a revolving carousel of mirrors, it provided the backdrop for The Riches’ two-hour spectacle beneath original video art.
This mesmerizing encounter deeply moved their dedicated followers. The Riches are set to revive this enchanting, multi-sensory affair at their exclusive venue on Queen West on September 27, 2024, as a highlight of their album launch celebration for Kangaroo.
